Help w/ timing

I know that when you time the car you're supposed to disconnect the blk/tan wire. Every time I try the car dies. If it is disconnectecd the car wont start. When I put the timming light on with the wire hooked up it reads about 50degrees. Can anyone please help me?????????????????? :hail:

50*? that's way high, are you sure you're hooked up to the right plug wire? If you are try this. Start the engine with the wire hooked up, and your timing light. With the everything still hooked up adjust the timing down to around 20*, provided you can get it that low of course. Then shut the car down, disconnect the battery, leave it disconnected for a few minutes, then hook it back up and try and set the timing correctly.
