How to remove carbon build-up?
Our tpi manifolds are getting very old. Mine has a considerable amount of carbon build-up in the runners, plenum and base. I feel this has gotten to the point of impeeding my intakes flow capability. What is the easiest way to remove this build-up. I am looking for some type of agressive cleaning solution to soak the parts in to make the whole process easier, but if I have to srub than so be it. Has anyone had luck with this process? The tech article on adonizing aluminium parts talks about useing a nitric acid solution as a final cleaning step. This sounds like a bad @ss cleaner, will this possibly work for my problem?
Thanks fellas :hail:

Take it all apart spray it down with carb cleaner (other cleaners work faster and easer but can pit the AL) let it sit about 10min and then spray it again and run a brass brush through all of it and take a grinding wheel and port all of it out. That way you get all the carbon out and you can make it flow better at the same time. I had mine powder coated on the outside so it doesn't get that dull white film on it.
I just did mine this weekend. Soaked them in solvent (gasoline) and then let them air dry after running a brush thru them. I then used my air grinder and an 80 grit barrel sanding tip and polished them as far in as I could reach. Castrol Purple cleaner is good, but make sure you thoroughly wash off all the cleaner. The same with simple green. Carb cleaner works good too. Good Luck!!

castrol superclean and a wire brush works great, but it will give you that slight 'dull white powder' look as it corrodes the Al pretty quickly.
