A last opinion on vortec heads....

I have been doing alot of reading and phone calls and the vortecs just seem like the way to go. I have compared flow numbers for vortecs,world,E-TEC'S, AFR'S, and the vette L98'S. For a low buck upgrade it can see no wrong. Does anyone have reason why these vortecs with the LPE211/219 cam, SLP runners, and a ported SCOGGIN baseplate can't run high 12's with 3.27 (torque friendly) rear-end and some tuning.

It could run high 11's if tuned perfectly with custom prom tuning.....

I personally think they are a very good deal myself!!! ive noticed people always shoot down the vortec's and say go with AFR's well no one has the money for AFR's and DAM AFR's cost more than a lot of people car on this site....... do yourself a favor and go vortec

Well, gee.... this has never been discussed!!? The Vortecs are really only marginally the best bang for the buck IMO since they have several limitations that need to be changed for most high performance applications..... For an engine that will take a thirdgen into the 12s, I really feel that the 23* TFS or Edelbrock aluminum heads are the Best Bang for the Buck for a multitude of reasons. If all you want is 13s the Vortecs should get you there.

And FYI, Mike's car has AFRs on it, not Vortec heads. It's performance is also not 'run of the mill' for the mods it has (which are more extensive than the planned ones stated above), so don't expect that kind of performance or you will likely be dissapointed. But I do agree that a self-tuned custom PROM is your (pretty much everyone's) best bet for optimal performance.....

Here is another post on the 'Best Bang for the Buck' head 'competition' :
