TPI conversion ???

Hey Guys,

Glad i found this BBS i need some help.

I have a Jeep CJ-7 with a ZZ4 crate motor in it. the motor is 2 years old, it has GM fast burn aluminum heads, HOT cam with roller rockers and tappets, 4 barrel GM intake with a Holley 900 cfm Projection 4DI setup, MSD 6A off-road box, and a MSD Billet distrutor. It Dynoed at about 400-430 hp at the crank with 295 at the rear wheels. but i have a old Ford F150 T18 tranny, Gear driven tcase, dana 60 w/detroit, and 38x14 inch tires.

I Hate the POS Projection and i am looking at a TPI Setup. Can somebody go through and tell me exactly what i need to get a TPI setup on my motor. I know i will need to find a TPI from a 350 or a 305 from a juckyard or somebody that is selling it. what else will i need to get it to work properly on my motor.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Scott

you can put a TPI on that engine.... however the stock TPI from both the 305 and the 350 will probably not be best for performance on the ZZ4. TPI is great on low end torque, however it has a tendency to "choke out" at rpms at or about 4000. so you will lose a great deal of horsepower by puting a TPI on there... try this... go to www.lt1inake.com. there u can get a LT1 intake modified to fit that engine. it will give you the air needed to maintain HP.

He's putting it in a Jeep CJ with 38" tall mudder tires. He WANTS torque not HP. He will probally not even see 4000rpm. I would recommend the TPI for him, it's the best option.

Opps, did I just loose a sale? Nah, I'm just being honest. I have steered people away even when I could have made a buck.

Thanks Chris and John,

I have the redline set at 6500 now and it likes it. My rear wheel dyno torque curve jumped at about 1500 straight to 360 ft/lbs and then carries that all the way through to about 6000. John i will be looking at your website and see what i can find. if you want to email me some price quotes it would be great.

Thanks again guys
