Code 42 under weird circumstances...

I only get it after the engine is warmed up, and sitting at a very constant idle. Then, all of a sudden the light comes on. Know stumbling, no acting funny, seems to be for no reason at all.

42 is the electronic spark control, fyi. I would think i'd have symptoms if something was actually wrong.

Any help appreciated.

Reno,

Closely inspect the wiring at the HEI module, pickup coil, and test the capacittor in the base of the distributor. Check the ignition coil primary wiring, and wiring at the ESC module as well. Don't forget to look at the EST bypass connector and wiring as part of the whole circuit.
