exhuast gasket

I was wondering if a leaky exhuast gasket could help or cause a engine to overheat?

Engine: 3.0L Diesel

Transmission: 8sp

I doubt it very much. head gasket maybe but if the exhaust is just escaping into the engine compartment then it shouldent cause elevated temps in the coolant.
