Better for my app: Miniram or Superram?
OK< here goes. I have a 1988 Formula 355 forged internals, 9.25:1 compression, hedman headers, Ported/polished Edelbrock TPI base, 58mm TB, 452/465 cam, T24lbers, afpr,Trick Flow G2 twisted Wedge Heads, 1.6 R'R's, 3" cat back, 3.45s yada yada yada...
I wanna get rid of my current existing intake and swap in either a miniram or a superram. Whataya think? If i get the SR, im also gonna get the Lingenfelter 580/580 cam made for the SR. If i get the MR, im gonna get a cam compatible with that runner length. Its a weekend/show car w/occasional trips to play at the strip. Oh, BTW, im also getting a P1SC ProCharger this summer.
Running a 12.6 now, Im sure the SR or MR will bring it down CONSIDERABLY, especially w/ matching cam.
SSSSOOOOO, what do you think will be better? I also enjoy little light-to-light street fights on occasion, so i dont want to lose my torque at low end. Well, well, well? What would YOU do. And NO, i dont want an LT1 swap, i know of 3 people who have done them and they are all having problems in the long run even
though they ran damn strong at 1st. And 2 of 3 were professional shops/mechanics. trust me, at soon as you clock up 5 or 6k, youre gonna start hitting problems too.
So, SR or MR? Thanks guys, thirdgen rules.

You do the mini ram and I will do the LT1 swap. And I will have 1100 in the bank. I do doubt serious problems with it. But it could happen. It seemingly isn't that hard, making a hole through a manifold. Even TPIS copied it well.
12.6 at what mph? On a gtech??
The question you pose is an age old battle. I refuse to answer it.

If you want to rev to 7000 rpm and have more HP, get the MR and a cam such as the CC306. If you don't want to rev that high or don't think the engine could handle it, get the SR and I HIGHLY recommend the LPE 219/219 cam with it. It'll rev to 6000 rpm nicely, and provide some more TQ down low. The 3.45's would be perfect with the LPE 219/SR, but I'd get at least 3.73's with the MR, maybe 4.10's. If you have an auto tranny, match the stall accordingly too (2500-3000 for the LPE 219 and SR, higher for the MR CC306).

I would go SuperRam. I havn't heard of the TW heads being a very high rpm head. Probobly good to 6500. With the MR, you will want heads that are good through 7000+ to take full advantage of it. Plus you will need a decent stall converter and possible gears.

As a person who has KNOWN people with all 3 set-ups (Mini-Ram, Superam and the LTR set-up) they all liked the Mini-ram best. Ive had the modified LTR set-up and went to the Mini-Ram and I can tell you I do have a$$ loads of torque. Plus the Mini-Ram LOVES NOS and blowers. But if you have a visual emissions check, the lack of a EGR on the Mini-Ram will get you into trouble. Just my .02c

And my question IS NOT an age old battle. You show me 1 person that has my EXACT mods EXACT gears and EXACT question, and i'll think about paying you one ounce of respect, until then, cut the

All I can say is do a search. You will find people with similar combos that have asked this question many many times over. Is the exact same combination really necessary to answer this question? Did you run your time on a gtech?? What was the MPH?

I personally wouldn't even consider the SR cuz it is a monstrosity. It has as much potential for vacuum leaks as stock TPI, only with much more fun bolts to get to. I'll pass.
From some preliminary testing, it looks like a siamesed aftermarket base w/ nice runners on it is a viable alternative to the SR. Mike Davis has already run 11.9 in the 100 teens with one in a heavy 85 car. If you already have these parts, why not siamese the base and see what happens. Seems like you're running a small cam though as well. You'll definitely want to use something more aggressive to take advantage of the heads.
The miniram speaks for itself. Lots of great MR combos on these pages, what more coul di say.
