maf screen removal
maf screen removal
hey,
Took both screens out of the MAF because I heard it would help with air flow.... But now I've heard that it can do some major damage to the engin. What does everybody think?...Was that a bad idea? Should I buy another MAF with screens in it and instal it? Or will my screenless one be ok?

Thanks

you just made a huge mistake. your engine wont last very long now. nah im just b.s., i took my MAF screens out over 2 years ago and its still running perfect. you got nothing to worry about as long as you didnt damage the little sensor wire inside the MAF when removing the screens.
Zach,
the screens aren't there for debris. That would be ridiculous. The screens are there to de-laminate the air flow for accurate intake air measurement, and to protect the sensor hot wire from sonic shock created by lean backfire and intake pulsation at WOT.
If you start getting MAF anomalies, you'll know why.

Apparently gutting the MAF on my setup was a huge mistake, it looks like i'll be getting a new MAF (with the screens), because it isnt de-laminate the air like its supposed to, and i have an occasional bucking problem now at lower RPM's. Wish i woulda known this before i started ripping and tearing in there.
