Codes 32, 33, 34 HELP!!!

Hey all: I recently used the paper-clip method to gt eror codes from my CM and this is what I found. I have a 1988 sport coupe with a 1986 IROC-Z TPI 305 (LB9)

The engine runs rich because I can smell th gas a lot outside. My dad has been a mechanic damned near all his life and said it shouldn't be like that.

Anyway, here are the codes and what me and my dad think is wrong.

CODE 32-EGR.. we believe there may be a vaccum leak somewhere with this system because the car doesn't run rich OR idle rough like it always does when the engine is still cold..when the engine warms up, however, it really runs like it's about to sh*t the bed, but it doesn't and won't. My dad said that's a characterstic of a vacuum leak.

CODE 3- MAF....i have no idea what's up with this one....maybe it's because of the EGR system?

CODE 44-ENGINE RUNS LEAN...could this be because I gutted my airbox? and now my engine is getting moe air than fuel? or could it be just becuse of another small problem?

I'm glad I didn't get any error codes concerning the injectors..I just ain't experienced enough to have the cash to get them changed or do that myself.


Any help on how to fix the above problems is appreciated

Dosent nessicarily mean its running rich, Could be due to a bad charcoal canister, or fuel leak somewhere else. Trust me You wanna figure out why. Engine fires are NOT fun

Not sure exactly what you mean, But a Vac leak would generally cause it to run poorly ( and lean ) at Low Rpm, as your wind her up the effects would be less noticeable... As far as the EGR code, try to verify if the EGR diaprham is working properly, But I wouldnt worry about this one too much..

Gutting the Airbox won't cause the engine to Run Lean. A large vac leak behind the MAF Will.

Sorry I couldnt be more help, I don't know much about the MAF TPI systems pecurilarities.

Or Spelling, for that matter.
