anyone running advanced timing?

i was wondering what kind of results you guys had with bumping the timing from its initial 6* setting. i bumped mine to 9*, and added several other mods, and my car only picked up about 0.05 in the quarter (best out of 3 runs). GMHTP did a drag test with a stock GTA a few years ago, and their times actually went down with advanced timing (they blamed the lack of ET on the fresh glue the track officials had just laid down), however, this lack of performance seems to be happening to my vette also. just wondering your opinions and theories

I run about 12-13 deg of timing. I always run 93 octane, with the knock sensor disabled.

I recently had mine set as high as 12* after installing new intake gaskets and porting/polishing the runners, but backed off to 9* after some pinging and valve lash. Definitely only run 93 octane. I would not disable the knock sensor.

every day running 11* BTDC, no problems. Also improvment at the track of .2 with timing only.

mine is 6deg advanced, it retards it at times(whenits like 200deg) but I notice a big difference when I runn 91 octance compared to 89, no retarding.

I kept the '85 at around 9*. Any higher and I would get knock retard. Any lower is a performance loss at the track. I always ran 93 octane (even when it was $2.25 last summer).

This is something that is best to play with at the track.

also I forgot to say I've heard this helps and that it doesn't but my car runs the 1/4 faster than the other cars with pretty mucht the same mods and no advance in timing. maybe its just a fluke, maybe not :-) also my enging only has about 25,000miles on it. so that may make a difference too.
