Oil Filter leaks after removing cooler?
Oil Filter leaks after removing cooler?
The 350 TPI in my Jeep came with a remote oil cooler. I pulled it off and put the filter directly on to the block. When I started the motor it leaked a whole bunch of oil. Tried a different filter and same thing happened. I put the cooler back on and it doesn't leak...there must be some type of sealing device that goes on the block if your not using the cooler...can someone help out, maybe a part #?

The engines with oil coolers use special bolts to retain the oil filter base and these special bolts also space out the cooler so it locks to the block. When you remove the cooler you must replace the special bolts with standard bolts that do not space out the cooler, otherwise it will leak. Replace the bolts and your problem will be solved.
