350 tpi question.
350 tpi question.
i'm in the middle of building up a fairly mild 350. i have a couple of questions. first, i was wondering what kind of performance i could get out of a stock 305 top end on my 350. i'm not really looking to build a race car, just something that'll be a little quicker than the stock 305. i just wanted to know what kind of problems i would run into and what kind of performance can be obtained with this set up. thanks

What mods to the motor? What car is it going into? What tranny & gears?
With a mildly built up 350 TPI you can pretty easily get 300+hp. Check out my site to see what it took to get my L98 to that number.

the motor is a 350, 30 over, stock bottom end, new bearings, flat top pistons, new rings, i have headers and exhaust, and a high performance street cam of some sort, i haven't picked it out, i'm still debating whether to use my performer intake and holley 750, or just use my 87 tpi off of a 305 i have. its going in an 84 firebird with a stock 87 700r4 and its got a 2.73 posi. i just need to know if the stock 305 tpi will be able to handle powering the 350.

The L98 Vettes used the LB9 TPI intake. My '88 Vette currently runs low 13s building about 300hp with only a gutted MAF, 52mm TB and ported plenum for intake work (of course it has a K&N and ram-air).
So you can use the 305 TPI intake, at least initially. If you need more air you can go to a BigMouth base (or siamese the stock base) and AS&M LT runners.
Are you considering upgrading the heads? A good set (possibly ported) will give you at least as much as the cam.

I did the build on my TA and the only mods to the Topend were throttle body, bumped fuel pressure, and some air box mods. My motor turned over 400. I think it will be ok. I could get plenty more out of it, if I upgrade my topend. Email me if you have any questions... Pimpjetta@hotmail.com
