plastic tranmission cover?

i have a 92 z-28 which i recently ran over a good sized branch. underneth the car it tore a plastic cover near the back of the engine/front of transmission. i asume (not knowing alot about transmissions) that this is just some sort of cover. i can see a large gear (or flywheel?) if i pull the cover back. will this cause problems if i drive like this until i can get it fix or should i just not drive it until then?

If there is any debris on the roads you drive on then don't drive it. If it is clear you could drive it until you get it replaced. I reccommend that you get it fixed quickly.

That cover is the torque converter/bottom of flywheel cover.

I recomend you fix it ASAP.

Probably because it's cheaper to make. Plus, it's a cool conversation piece when yours gets blown apart after the converter lets loose
