Installing a hurst Shifter.. help please!!
hey guys
i am half way done installing this new hurst 4 speed shifter into my 82 TA. im at the point where she is screwed in and stuff and just working on adjusting the rods.. how tight should the bolts be that are connecting the rods to the transmission? i was told finger tight, but i think it might have to be tigher.. any help on this would be great.. should i tightin them all the way with a wrench or do you have to leave some play in there?

You should have some funky looking (kinda "B" shaped) lock pins in that kit!! If you don't, and there are little holes thru the sides of the rods connecting them, STOP! Get the lock pins!
Should be a bushing that fits in the hole of the rod that slides on 'posts' both shifter side, and shift fork control lever. Put the post thru the bushing and secure with the bolt, just finger tight (you want the rods to be able to rotate on the post). Then put lock pin thru the hole.
If there aren't holes in there, then I'm thinking of a totally different type of Hurst shifter, and you need the instructions for it then.
Good luck, and I really hope this helps!

thanks for the reply.. we got the rods on the shifter with the bushings and the B clips.. now i am putting the rods on to the transmission (3 rods) and they have a half inch bolt with a lock washer. how tight should the bolt be on to the body of the trany?
right now they are finger tight, but when i shift i am not finding any gears... hopefully it's just adjustments that will find the gears
thanks again for the reply
