Comp Cams replied to email told me I CAN NOT run the Extreme 284 cam with 1.25 spring
HOWEVER.............SEVERAL cam manuafacturers make 1.25 valve springs that are good to .510 lift and beyond.....so what gives??? Even Comp themselves make a conical 1.25 inch spring that they say is good for .525 lift.....so why didn't they recommend that to me? Also, Crane Cams makes the 99846-16 single 1.25 spring that is supposed to be good to .540 lift. Are they just trying to get me to spend more money on double valve springs by telling me I can't run single 1.25's..........or is it really required with the 284 cam? here's the cam specs:
.507/.510 lift
240/246 duration @.050
284/296 advertised
110 LSA.
This is a big cam, but it doesn't seem like such a huge cam that the 99846 springs wouldnt' work, right? They say the largest Extreme cam you can run on 1.25 springs is the 274 cam, but then why do they sell 1.25 springs (the conicals) that are good for .525 lift?!??!!?? Totally confused.

They probabily mean their extreme cam can't be run with just any
1.25" stock dia. spring. These new cams have high acceleration rates and require good springs with specific seat and open pressures. They are the experts on their stuff.
But the crane 99846 springs are used in all their (Crane's)
"Saturday night Special" cam kits for oval and bracket racing.
These kits have hyd and mechanical cams with very high acceleration rates and even higher lift than the Comp Exteme's.
They should work well if setup properly IMHO.
I'd phone Comp's "800" tech line for clarification.
