T-5 Limits

I understand that my T-5 Transmission is has some major limits, it's in a 1990 IROC. I just replaced any parts in it that looked worn, or chipped so it should be good as new. How much horsepower and torque cxan it take before I have to rebuild it again?

There rated at I think at like 295 lbft's. They are not kidding just to let you know. It is a weak trans. You I think have a worldclass if you have a 1990. This was a bit stronger trans and it should be ok if you haven't modded it too much. I'd say you have some time..alot of time itf you don't beat on it.

The World Class T-5 was in '88 and up F-Bodies.

The T5 isnt that weak, it really gets its bad rep from S10 trucks where they had lower gears and tended to break a lot.

Good one cdog. Why must you ignore the other information, then make up data and even a tolerance number????

and your problem is? make up data? I read a manual on the T-5 which states that the older T-5 handles up to 310ft-lbs, and the world class to 350, im sorry about the 375 i checked again. somewhere in my house is an old car craft i believe which states that the w/c T-5 handles about 350ft-lbs. listen guy...i write what i read, i didnt design the trans. so you can cut the "angry" bit. this forums meant for information purposes. i have a T-5 in my 383. and it hasnt blown yet

Everything I have seen says the regular T5 is rated at 290 ft/lbs and the world class T5 is 310 ft/lbs. My son's car (Kevin91Z) dynoed at over 400 ft/lbs of torque at the rear wheels. He just recently went 12.80 @ 108.50 MPH. But the very next time at the track he broke third gear. Now we have the T56 in it.

I'm keeping my T5 until I get my vortec-head engine in, then I am going with the aftermarket T56.

I checked the manual very closely to get a good understanding, it doesnt specify but i think the its the ford T-5 with the 350ftlbs torque rating. this would make sense since since i just heard that the ford w/c T-5 is the highest rated.
My curiosity has got the best of me now...if the fords t-5 is really stronger, could the bell housing and the extension housing be changed from a GM to the ford and be swapped to a 350? would the splines mesh correctly? that could be worth some thought.
ive got a late model ford T-5 in my 67 mustang, its just sitting there, i could put it to some good use.
