Im looking for the gear ratio for this 84 Z28 Camaro differential. The numbers that was located on the passenger side axle are:
6fb 0339
under the differential:
22522676

I have a rear also that I want to figure out what it is... it came out of an '89 RS. The number on the bottom of the differential also has 22522676 on it, is it a 3.42 posi also? There isn't any #'s on the axle itself as far as I can tell.

You need to get the axle code. It's on the front of the passenger side tube. It's usually filled with rust, dirt etc. A wire brush is usually needed to clean the tube to see the code.

If the rear isn't in the car yet then just pull the cover and count the teeth.

If the 89 RS had a V6 then it's a 3.42 without posi. If it had a V8 then it had 3.08 with a manual transmission and 2.73 with an automatic transmission both without posi.

Its there on the passenger side axle, you just have to remove all the rust. I was thinking the same until it finally broke thru and I seen the numbers. Can anyone tell me where I can find the specification chart that identify this rear end as a posi with 3.42

My 89 Rs Came stock with a 2.8 AND POSI GEARS.......Either that or my rear end has welded its self together. Both tires light up when doing a burn-out.

Actually, the code shouldn't be DLT504, it should be 6fb 0339 . If you had a manual trans in that car, you'd have a 3.73/posi/disc rear... did it come with a manual originally?

Either way, if it's a posi, it'll be an Eaton gov-lock... search this message board for gov-lock for some not-too-good news. (I joined the ranks of guys whose gov-lock died... not too long after putting a 3.73/posi/disc rear from an '84 T/A into my '86.)

good point, im thinking of truck stamping codes, they are all letters unliek these cars, wierd..

The code is not DTL504, that is my screen name the code on the axle was 6FB 0339, just in case anyone was confused. I have yet to see this code on any specification chart, but a look on internet sites tell me its has a 3:42 POSI for that year, engine, and 700R4 Automatic Transmission. I would like to see the axle code chart of 6FB 0339 identifing this rear end if one is out there. I was under the impression that this was a limited slip rear end and the other axle will kick in after a shift in weight.

The gov-lock used a spinning weight to engage both axleshafts; and it would chip the teeth of the spider gears over time...

Ever change the rear fluid? Might as well drop the rear cover and count teeth; buy a gasket, some 80w90, and a bottle of the $15 posi additive from GM, and you'll know for sure.

today I took the cover off to verify the true gear ratio and I was 41 big gear and 11 small gear, came back to the computer and found the web page that list gear ratio and its a 3.73. Could not believe it so I went back outside to verify what I had already counted three times and yes it is correct they have 3.73 gears in the bugger. I just dont know how well they are going to work with this combo that I have put together. I really just putting a street rod together and dont have plans on going on the track. However one thing that I notice that when I turn either axle the differential do not spin. I would have thought that if I turned the axle I would. The little gears in the inside do however spin and the axle are not locking on to the spinning gears. Do it require a certain amount of torque before they will spin and lock. Also how do you think this combo will work with these gears, will be street driven, however not everyday

Funny I'm thinking of using a 84 Z28 rear end as well, cuz its a 3.73 and my 9 bolt is only a 3.27..

Though, i don't think its a POSI..

Wnyone know the size of the ring gear on these?? I need a spool for the track.

I just bought a rear end with disc brakes, and trying to find out what it is the paasenger axle said 6hs c188 2, and on the bottom it said GM N 22522676. What is this rear end can any1 help me please.
