Car Shifts Gears Very Late

I HAVE AN 89 FIREBIRD WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANS MY CAR WILL NOT SHIFT UNLESS YOU GET THE MOTOR REALLY REVVED UP LIKE AROUND 4-5,000 RPM'S . NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANS SLIPPING OR ANYTHING THIS IS THE FIRST PROBLEM IVE EVEN NOTICED WITH THE CAR . ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED

I had the same problem with my 700r4 and it turned out to be a sticking valve in the governor.I took the govenor and would clean the valve and it would fix it for a little while then the valve would stick again so i finally had just went up to a trans shop and got another governor and havent had the problem since. I hope its the same problem you have cause its a easy fix.
