replacing torque converter

Do you have to remove the tranny to replace the torque converter? How much work is it to replace one?
and if I had a shop replace mine for me around how much would you say it would cost for the work?

Thanks for the help,

to put in a torqe converter the trans does need to be removed. its really not hard at all, there are a couple bolts that are a PITA but its no big deal.

Hey there, to replace the t/c you have to remove the trans. And as the guy before me said it really is not that hard to do. Get a Haynes or Chiltons manual and just follow the instructions. You will need a good floor jack and 4 quality jack stands so you can work and move comfortably under the car. The top bolts that hold the trans. to the engine can be gotten to with a combination of long extensions from the rear of the tranny. Before you put the new t/c on pour about a qt. of transmission fluid into the converter itself. After warm up check the fluid level reading both sides of the dipstick and adjusting the level according to the lowest reading. This I learned from one of the many great contributors to this thread. Good luck, bro'.
