Which Manual Tranny for a 383 Stroker

I have a 1982 Camaro and I am going to build up a 383 stroker engine with about 500hp & tq give or take. I want to put in a manual tranny, just not sure which one to get. An aftermarket Richmond T-56, a Tremec TKO, etc. Which one will hold up with the application that I am running. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Justin

all of those trannys listed will work fine, but are VERY $$$ if you want to go cheaper you can run a muncie or super t-10, both will hold up fine, if you need a trans i got a nice ST-10 with a hurst shifter i may sell,

I would not recommend the richmond T56 because its 1.9" longer than a borg warner T56 which requires the driveshaft and torque arm shortened. Also, I have heard that the speedo cable does not clear the trans tunnel due to the extra length. I would get a T56 from a 94-97 F-body because tis rated at 450 ft/lbs of torque, it will re use your existing driveshaft and torque arm, the only problem is you need a custom cross member, but Skulte sells that piece for $150. There is also a tech article on their website on how to do this. The only other trans I would recommend would be a Muncie M21 or M22 or a Borg Warner Super T10, but they would take a little more work to make fit.

P.S. You could also use a 93 F-body t56 which is still bolt in, but due to a weaker casing it is only rated at 400 ft/lbs.
