I got my Dual Gate!
I finally got and installed my Hurst Dual Gate today
. I must say driving around and shifting gears is a lot of fun. The install wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Since the B&M vs. Hurst debate rages on, I will post my little gripes so you all can compare them to the wildly known B&M problems:
1. Last two pages of instructions were missing, luckily I had them saved on my computer.
2. Missing 3 bolts, luckily I have a magic bolt box.
3. Shift cable seems too short, might be chaffing against the floor.
4. Had to pull stereo and some panels to get more slack on the neutral saftey harness.
5. The little chrome cover over the Race Gate is stupid little POS.
6. Replacement top plate needs to be shaved a little to fit right.
7. Shifter is sitting a little too high, interferes with top plate.
Yeah, some of this stuff had me pi$$ed, but it wasn't too bad. I didn't have to cut a single wire, everything bolted in place of the stock shifter ( but it gets tight inside the console! ). The shifter works great, it does take a little practice as opposed to a ratchet shifter, you have to be careful or you'll miss 2nd and jump 1st to 3rd. BTW, nothin' sounds cooler than banging through those metal gates

I had ALL the same issues with my dual gate that you had, but I still have some residual issues as well. I also had to modify the shifter to sit correctly, cuz it was waaay off to the side. Another problem is it does NOT let me shift it into 1st gear, there's not enough tension on the cable. And If I adjust the cable to let me shift it into first, then I can't shift to park
! Also the park/lock cable will NOT work good for me. With a little pressure, I can turn the key in any gear, but at least the safety switch won't let me start it.
BTW, the build quality of it isn't as great as I hoped it'd be. I had to replace a lot of their little sheet metal nuts and put real bolts in so the damn shifter wouldn't fall apart. It fell apart on me three times just trying to install it! And that little shiny block off plate fell off a couple of times too already, and the only way to get it back on with the springs is to keep at it with needle nose pliers, cuz there's NO WAY IN HELL I will remove the shifter to do, cuz it'd take me three hours to put back in.
In conclusion, if anyone wants a GOOD shifter to *bang* through the gears, I recommend the B&M. Cuz it's pretty easy to overshift on the dual gate.

Have any pics of the dual gate, a guy I knew had one and looked good, just wanted to have a pic of it.
I like my B&M one just fine, nothing wrong at all.

I'll try to post a couple pics when I get the top plate on. Oh, almost forgot the **** is kinda cheesy won't stay tight. Might sound like I'm complaining to much but don't get me wrong I think this thing is awesome, I just wish my 700R4 already had a Transgo kit in it so I could actually hold gears
. Did get my first ever 2nd gear scratch today, though

I just "installed" mine today. It is a PIECE OF ****ING ****!!! I was missing a few pages of instructions too, the cable is not too short, the little piece of steel that attaches to the cable is (READ HURST'S FAULT!!!). I went and bought a new cable and still had the exact same problem. I was also missing 3 bolts. I must say I am VERY disappointed in Hurst.

All the same issues here. Not what I expected. Real shame from a company like Hurst. (missing instructions, bolts etc.)
When I was shopping for a shifter, I heard about the little issues between the two and went with the B&M simply because I like the ratchet action better. But I've been planning on moving the B&M to my Z and putting a Dual/Gate in the RS.
Complain away, guys. Put down even the little issues. I think I can speak for all of us when I say we want to hear as much good and bad as possible when we do a search so we can all make a choice we feel comfortable with.

Some problems with the B&M shifter,
1) handle comes loose
solution = use lock tite
2) cable they give you breaks
solution= use the stock cable, and never have to get under the car.

I like both shifters. I had hurst's in my '88 and I had b&m in my '82. Now im converting my '83 5-speed for a 700-R4 and am going with the common b&m. I just like the simplicity of it. Best of luck to all you shifter guys.....D2M4Ever.
