Problem with gear swap.
Any one had a problem doing a gear swap in an '89 10 bolt rear,
I was told by SLP that all late 80's 10 bolt rears had 28 spline axles so I bought a posi and gears for 28 spline axles, when we took the car apart, we found 26 spline axles.
Is this unique to the 89's, or did i get that one in a million odd ball car.
Oh yeah, the mechanic also said the ring gear was too big and was doubtful that it would fit inside the housing.
Anyone else ever run into this?
Thanks.

You don't have the BW 9 bolt do you?
I know that the 7.5" and the 7.625" ring gears will fit on the same carrier. A friend of mine put a 7.5" ring gear on an OEM 7.625" carrier. I think 89 was one of those "in-between" years where some had the 26 spline and some had the 28...at least it was for the M-Body.

Its deffinatly a 10 bolt w/ drum brakes.
The mechanic looked in the mittchel guide for the part numbers,
86 to 88 were all the same, 90 to 92 were all the same 89 was the only one that didn't cross over to other years.
