Function of the boost valve

I have the .471 boost valve in my 700. Is that what regulates the pressure that holds the clutches together? I am about to buy some 11" wide street tires and I dont want the traction to kill my tranny. It already has transgo kit, servo, cooler, upshift sleeve and 120K miles. The engine makes roughly 290 hp.

It regulates main line pressure. If you are going to manually shift the transmission then you will need to put in the .296 intermediate/reverse boost valve, this valve raises line pressure in manual "1" & manual "2" position. If you only leave it in drive or overdrive then this valve will not help. If the transmission is in good shape and you plan on drag racing it full time, then I would put in the .500 main boost valve along with the Corvette servo. If you have any questions call me 800 7763288.
