? for those with high stall converters ->
I love driving my camaro but it seriously gets on my nerves day in and day out, for one reason only. The neck-snapping harsh shifts into D and R from park. Also, I need a third foot to keep it stopped at lights. Please tell me a converter will fix this. Anybody use one of the B&M 2400 stall converters? There is a light duty one in Summit for only ~$240. I really don't want to spend the money on a better one, or should I?

How high is your idle speed? It should not be so harch going into gear. Also, if you have set the TV higher than it should be it will be harsh too. Was the TransGo install done exactly as the instructions say or were other mods done too? A higher stall will make for a somewhat smoother engagement but if the other things are not right it may not help.

#1 You should check your idle RPM.
#2 is your tranny a newer revision (I think 88-newer) with the aux. valve body? I've heard they go into gear easier.
I have a pro-built 700r4 with the transgo kit, and putting it into gear is a complete NON EVENT. Smooth as butter. But I also have a 2400rpm 9.5" stall converter....
you really shoudln't need two feet to hold it still though. check your idle. and fix it soon, if it is that bad you are risking breaking something.
as for "should i get a better converter" do a search on this board and read some of the posts. you'll be doing yourself a favor by getting a high quality converter (vigilante, yank). Although a "mild" 12" converter (say around 2000) will be ok, you don't want to go anything past that. Everything they say about the smaller (9.5") converters being better is TRUE. Even though I have a 2400rpm stall, when I take my foot off the brake at only 600rpm idle speed, the car will still creep forward. like it's stock. Give it a little gas (1500rpm) and it will accelerate fine. Stomp on it, the converter flashes, and the car GOES!

I know what ya mean man, in the winder i turn my idle up to make the car start a little easier but it sucks at stop lights. I would first try turning down the idle, and then check the TV cable.

Once warmed up, it idles at 750. It will slow to ~600 in gear on the rarest of occasions. I have adjusted the idle and TPS. Actually, the adjustment screw was backed off so much, it took 3-4 turns to get the engine started. The throttle plates were evidently close to completely shut. After the adjustment, it started quicker but the idle stayed the same at 750. Eventually I am going to get into programming my own chips and should be able to fix it.
