VSS problems

Hello. Had a bit of a setback with my VSS. I changed it to a 43t driven gear from the 37 (IIRC) when i went from 2.73s to 3.23s. Now a few hundred miles after the speedo gear swap, my VSS shaft snapped.
At first that struck me as odd, and i did some digging and found an old post where a user mentioned different VSS's for different size speedo gears. His idea was that higher tooth count = bigger speedo gear = more offset to the shaft. Upon quick inspoection, the 37t driven gear is noticeably smaller. (see attached pic) I can easily believe that much extra offset would have side loaded and killed the VSS shaft.

Now, does anybody know what the correct VSS would be for a 43t driven gear (with a red drive gear if that matters?) If i go to the dealer and get a VSS for a 92 L98 should i be ok, or were they grey drive gears with small driven gears? Any ideas, this is the kind of problem that i know the guy behind the counter will look at me funny and act like i am an idiot cuz he won't understand it.

Got the correct VSS today, GM PN #10456089

If i heard the guy right this is the VSS used on 41 tooth and larger driven gears, and it in fact has an offset shaft. If you're changing speedo gears from a 37t to a larger piece, you'll need this or you'll likely snap your VSS shaft like i did after a few hundred miles.

Digging this one up from way back.... Have you ever heard of anyone else with the same problem you had? I'd rather not lay down 30 bucks for this sensor when I am already dishing out 40+ for the 2 gears (15T and 44T)

well when i replaced my gears i kept the old VSS in there. it worked for maybe 2 weeks then all the sudden i had no spedometer. i thought the plug that went to it disconected. i checked that but it was still in place so i took the VSS out and discovered that the shaft had broken off. i bought the different VSS and all has been well for about 6 months

Dang, that sucks. I guess I'll go ahead and pick up the new VSS as well. Thanks for your help!

Bringing this from WAAAYYYY back. Quick question, did you have any problems with the connectors between the two? Did it use the same connector or was it different? I'd rather not have to rig it up to work.
