Can the T5 handle all the power ?

I recently had my 1991 Camaro RS's 5-speed transmission rebuilt. It was rebuilt w/ all titanium parts so that it will be stronger, and last longer. However, I really really want to change my 305 TBI, to the ZZ4 350 (and keep the TBI cause it's cheaper, and I like it :-) --- How do you think my transmission will hold up? I really don't have money to get a new tranny after rebuilding it if I do this engine swap. I didn't think I was going to get a new engine, but I really rather have a 350 than a 305.... Do you think it could handle the torque/hp?? Please help me out - I'm a girl, and I'm sure you all know lots more than me so that is why I came here!! :-)

Also, to swap the TBI, will that be able to work on the 350 ? What else do I need to complete that ? New injectors, etc ?

I'm no TBI guy...might want to try the TBI board. Don't see why it wouldn't just bolt right up.

As far as the 5 speed goes...just don't beat the hell out of it everyday, and it will be fine.

as fa as the tbi goes u will wunt to get a set of injectors off of a 350 tbi engine maybe form a junkyard or from a parts store maybe. everything should bolt up just as long as the heads on the 350 are the 87 and up centerbolt valve cover heads. if they are not then u will require a different intake with an adapter.

I went to Aamco Transmissions and had them rebuild it for me - it was called their world class transmission, and it's suppose to handle very good.

All 88 and up V8 F-Bodies came with the World Class T5. They're a rated at 330ft-lbs of torque. So you already had the WC T5 but it was still a good idea to rebuild the tranny.

And the TBI will bolt up just fine. You can use the same ECM. All you need to change is the injectors, and intake manifold because the ZZ4 is the pre 86 intake bolt pattern. All you need to do is get yourself a pre86 carb manifold and get yourself an adaptor or make your own out of some plastic. It's very easy.

Good Luck.

Thankyou very much for the info! I'm very excited to get this engine swapping on the way. Your opinion, what would be the BEST intake manifold to go for? I need to hook up the TBI... but also, I need to make this engine just a *little* emmisions legal. Ohio the laws aren't very strict, but it's just the concept. Thanks :-)

The main problem with T-5's at high horsepower (either WC or NWC) is that the case will flex. Close internal tolerances between rotating masses become, well, um, distant external tolerances as your gear clusters, shaft, and counter shaft coming flying out of the case.
The gears themselves are rarely at fault, although I have broken teeth off them.
Oftentimes, also, the snap rings that hold the gear to the shaft will break. This causes the gear to freewheel, without doing damage to the actual gear. My 5th gear is doing this.
To make a long story short, rebuilding them is just delaying the enevitable. Unless somebody starts building titanium CASES, I'm going to spend the $$$ for a Tremec.
