How is a 700R4 not setup for a non LU converter? If it won't lock the new converter then I would think the converter wouldn't last as long as if it would LU. Just a guess though.

Well, I wouldn't use a LU tq. conv. in a 700R4 that is setup for a non LU tq. conv. I have a 700R4 in my car (84 Z28) that is setup for a non LU tq. conv. and its just great. The tech that did the rebuild said not to go back to the LU conv. because he changed the oil flow in the trans.
