Did haveing no lock-up mess up my tranny???

my car seems to shake at low rpm under a load, like takeing off no matter at what rate of acceleration, but it is not constant, it dont do it while maintaining speed or accerating really slow, just when accelerating and not even constint at acceleration, I can feel it close to my center council and in my gas pedal i know that it is not the engine that is running chery, I read somewhere that driveing in 4th on a 700R4 with out the tranny locking up is bad could this be my prob? any way to fix if I did mess it up? fluid is still new looking new and not smelling bad.

no, driving with no lock up will not damage the tranny, I do it all the time, for about the last 15,000 miles.

But the extra heat from friction wont help it any either. It is reccomended to run a separate tranny cooler to help keep the temp down. Heat Kills transmissions!!

I beg to differ. Running W/O L/U will eventually damage a 700, BTDT. I know everyone has a story about how they or someone they know went 100K W/O L/U, yada, yada, yada.

What happens is higher than normal heat is generated in the Tranny which eventually takes it's toll, usually in the form of hard Piston Seals and leaks. How long it takes to show up depends on differenet factors, one big one being the Rear End Ratio, the lower it is the longer it will tend to last. Also, if you don't really get into 4th as much it may last allot longer. A cooler helps but is not the answer.

There are some manufacturers that heve O/D's and NO L/U but I will gaurantee that they have Lower gears to go with it.

I wouldn't think that in those number of miles it would have done it in unless it was already on the borderline.
