400 hp T-5?

I know nobody likes them and the stock T-5's suck, but does anybody know if there are parts available to make this tranny handle upwards of 400 hp? I would like to keep the 5 speed just for originallity rather than the T-56 swap. I figure if it can be done it should not cost any more than the T-56 swap.

Can it be done and who can I contact about the parts or even a builder to do it?

I had my NWC T5 behind a 383 pushing 450hp for 3 years with no problems. I pulled it apart at the end of each year and it looked fine. I replaced the syncros on the second year just for a freshen up. As long as you don't beat it you should not have too many problems. Synthetic ATF is a must!

I had this Counter Gear Stabilizer installed in my T-5 when it was rebuilt. I'm running an estimated 400 HP (according to Desktop Dyno) and so far the tranny is just fine after a year of use.

My NWC T-5 is still holding up behind my beast....granted it is grinding, but the grinding started before the 305 swap when the guy at the tranny shop screwed it up!!!

Keeping in mind the obvious...
Torque doesn't kill trannys, strain kills trannys.
If your setup will not allow the car to "hook up"
that is if you can't get near a 1.7 60ft time
you'll be fine. The tranny will become a weak point
when the clutch will hold and you have the traction
for a "good" launch (posi, sticky tires, good geometry)

If your in the 2.0 second range only stupid abuse
will damage the tranny.
