I can't believe I did this...

Going about 90 in Drive in my 84 Z28 w/ 700R4, got finished waxing my friends Accord and Golf 3 so I decide to put it back in Overdrive. However, I threw it up into Reverse. I realized what I did and quick threw it back down into Neutral but my engine shut down and made some weird noise. I'm still trying to figure out how I didn't crash because I lost the steering, but I did manage to get it off to the side of the road. It took a little bit to start up but then it seemed to run ok. I thought for sure I dropped the tranny or something, but nothing seemed to happen. Does GM put something in the computers to keep this from happening? Is there anything I should check for? It seems to run ok, but I just want to make sure nothing is messed up.

Your tranny is not computer controlled so it has nothing to do with that.
