proper speedo gear install?

Engine: 383 stroker
Transmission: T-56
proper speedo gear install?
I just got done swapping in my new tranny and had to reuse my original tail shaft and VSS. But right afterwards, the speedo didn't work. I just pulled out the VSS and the both gears look fine(not damaged at all). So I'm wonder if the gears didn't mesh or the VSS is bad. Is there anyway to better my chances of the of proper gear mess or a way to test the VSS. Thanks for any help.
