I have a 88 C2500 truck that I just recently put a 330HO crate motor in and I also replaced the 700R4 with a turbo 400 and RV/towing convertor. The truck is primarily used for towing my horse trailer so I installed a tranny cooler with a fan and a tranny temp gauge. My question is this, what kind of temp should I expect the tranny to run while towing and while not towing? What is a safe temp? Is it possible to overcool a tranny, or do I want it as cool as possible? The fluid goes thru the radiator cooler, then an external tranny cooler, then to another tranny cooler with an electric fan on it and then back to the tranny so I think I am really dropping the temp pretty good, but can I over do it?
Thanks
jimmy

In Kentucky you will not have to worry about overcooling it. I personally prefer to bypass the Radiator altogether. If you start getting over 200 start to worry as you will get to a point where the seals will start harden. I would install a TransGo 400-2 Reprogramming Kit into it to reduce slippage.

I agree with transfixleo on this, keep the fluid at 150-180 degrees if at all possible. If you can do this the fluid should last a long time. Make sure you do the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit and install the 2004R low/reverse cup seals (2 at about .49 cents each) next to the center support bolt. This seals the case to support, with minimum amount of leakage. Add a couple of pan magnets near the back of the pan. If you use a synthetic?, use Amsoil (best) or Redline. Glad to help!
