Any thoughts about my tranny as I replace the radiator???
Any thoughts about my tranny as I replace the radiator???
I guess I am seeking the thought of ProBuilt or Transfixleo or others on this question.
My radiator has bought the big one and needs replacement. Is now a good time to do a tranny fluid change too?? How should i go about it??
See I am thinking that the cooler probably holds a quart or two and if I replace the tranny fluid at the same time as I replace the radiator I'll get a pretty thorough fluid replacement.
Are new radiators known to spit up manufacture debris ... is this something I should worry about in the process?
I have been considering a "transmission flush" but as I though about it I just couldn't see how they did it until I thouhjt about those transmission cooling lines going into the radiator. It seesm I could just leave them unhooked and let the pressure side dump into a bucket as I kept putting ATF in the dipstick hole while I let the car idle and moved the tranny from park to reverse to drive to reverse, etc and I would basically do a fluid change that way.
I know I am probably just getting warmed up for my starring role on the dumbass show, but I am wondering ... any merit to this idea??

Actually as long as you are carefull to not let it run dry that process will work fine. Then drop the pan and change the filter, remembering to pop the filter seal out of the pump inlet. I would not say that it is common to have 'leftovers' in the new radiator but it is also not unheard of either. You might want to take LOW pressure air and blow it into the holes, each way to make sure.
