any negative effects or TV being to tight?

I just swapped in a 350 vortec and new tranny and am still trying to get the shift feel right. I had to fabricate the TV bracket a little to work with the vortec heads and I've tried adjusting it many times but still cannot get a downshift from either 3rd or 4th. Plus my 1-2 shifts don't feel as tight as they should be cause the guy I bought the tranny from said that it had a vette servo and .500 boost valve and some other stuff. My question is, if I end up making the TV too tight, will harm anything like it would if it were too loose? Any help would be great guys.

The correct adjustment pulls the cable to the max when the throttle is all the way open. It can't be any tighter than that.
