Hey, make fun of me if you want but this is a serious question. I've always liked the idea of those fancey cars with that "Tiptronic" something-or-other transmission. You know, the one where you can do full auto when your driving to work but when you feel like it push a button and then shift it into gear like a manuel.

I was wondering, how do those types of transmissions work? I've heard that you can buy after market trannys for cars that work like those. Who makes them and where can you get them? Also, I'm just now learning how to build engines and haven't learned anything about transmissions yet. Is there a place on the web where I can learn about how transmissions work, how to fix them, etc., etc.?
