T56... what starter do I need?

I tried doing a search, but I found alot of conflicting info. I'm finishing up the install, and I went to try to put my original starter back on today, and it wouldn't fit. I'm not too sure where it hits, cause it was getting dark already, but I am going to take a better look at it tomorrow. Anyways, what starter are you guys with T56s using?

Or get a mini starter, I used one from a 96 LT1. It is hitting on the bellhousing. You can grind the hole bigger and it will work. The only problem I had with the mini starter, the wires were just barely long enough, had to trace them and pull a couple of tie backs.

I think I'm gonna try a starter from a manual car. Thirdgens used the same starter from 88-92, right? I guess if it works, then that would mean that the auto and manual starters are different, which would prove 50% of the people I've talked to wrong, and prove the other half correct.
Thanks for your help guys.

I haven't had a chance to do anything on the car until today. I went out to try to see why the starter wouldn't fit today, and I must have been eating major **** last time, cause it did fit.

I did the same as jimbuck....yeah those wires are some short bastards eh?

The cool part is trying to take back the stock starter as a core. Make sure you take it back later, you can fit it in the box if you work it right. My *** was running short on money and nearing the end of the project, so I tried taking the core in while getting the new one, you shoulda seen the look on the dumbass' face. I talked him into taking it. Told him that they started meaking them smalled now because of heat soaking problems from the exhaust.

I swear they'll let anyone work at O'Reilley's.

From everything I've read, the LO3 starter from an automatic will work just fine. I'm counting on it......
