Need Help Now!!! Really Broke Somthing!!!!!

i just put my new engine into my camaro and tried to drive it form school in RI, to home in MASS. car would't shift gears unless i floored it to 6500 rpm. and wouldn't go into 4th. when i got it home i backed it into my driveway. i started it 3 hours later and drove it to the store. when i tried to put the car into reverse, or neutral. it kept going forward. put here's the kicker!! when i put it into park, the transmission holds the car just like it should but when i rev the engine it's still in drive, and it tries to push the car forward. when i shut the engine off, the car rolls back a couple of inches and stops. and when i start it back up, it pushes foreward a couple of inches.

heres the history of the trans. it's a 700r4 in my 84 carmaro z28. it's pretty much stock. just ran new cooling lines and changed the fluid and filter. the linkage on the sid of the trans snapped off so i had to replace it. so while i was at it, i changed the filter and fluid. i know JACK about trannies, so any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

I'll bet your problem is here

If your shift cable is not in the proper place, the trans. will operate wrong!

Reread the section in the manual (you DO have a manual, don't you?) for remove/replace transmission shift cable and redo the adjustment.

same thing happened to mine, was in drive all the time, even park, when in reverse it was in drive and reverse at the same time! after it finally broke i took it apart and found that a piece of the plastic governor gear was in the valve body.
