Tranny problem?
Well fellas I finally made it!
I went to the other track and it was great. Well kinda.
On the way to the track I noticed that the car was holding gears a bit longer then usual but seemed to get better once things warmed up.
We arrived at the track after a 2.25hr drive and everything seemed fine.
My dad allowed me to use his skinnies for the front and brought a set of really nice 15" rims fitted with M/T slicks. These things felt like they were about 10# a piece! Way lighter than stock rims/tires. I never thought they would fit over the brake calipers, but to my amazement they worked! So we slapped them on. They stuck out about 3" on each side, but I wasn't there for a fashion show. It was all business today. Actually it looked freakin tough.
Well I wasted no time getting out to the track. There were only about 5-10 cars there!
First run. I spun the tires in the water, moved forward and heated them up till I saw smoke and spun out forward to the start. Staged and waited. With the car in 1st I floored it when the 3rd yellow lit. Red light appeared, hooked much harder than ussual. That was the reason for the red light, who cares. I was there for ET and MPH.
I went through first and shifted at the light. Seemed to take longer than normal to shift. Kept her barried. Went to shift into 3rd and it revved, revved, 6200 and I let off. It shifted into 3rd and I gunned it again right before the traps. To my amazement I got the below. But what was up with the 3rd shift?
r/t .465
60' 1.774
330 5.304
1/8 8.204
MPH 85.06
1000 10.757
1/4 12.930
MPH 103.74
Keep in mind I let off pretty long for the 3rd shift too. I really think it was capable of a 12.7 or better if it would have shifted as it usually does.
I returned and explained to my Dad and Brother-in-law what had happened. We searched around a bit and the first thing I looked at was the TV cable. Sure enough, there was no tension to it. It must have broke at the dyno the other night. I kinda noticed a change in shifting that night going home, but I had put a different chip in right before leaving.
I guess I got caught up in the excitement and decided to make a few more passes. I know I should have called it quits. Well again I had trouble shifting into 3rd but kinda had a technique to getting it in pretty quick. I know, I know, but This run was just above 12s
After a few more I was pissed I drove all that way and couldn't run right. I burned a few chips that leaned out my overly rich AFR. I decided to give it one more shot with a leaned out chip.
I hit the AFR pretty good. It was 12.7 up from 11.9-12.2. All the times were quicker throughout the run by a considerable amount. But I couldn't get it to go into 3rd this time. I just coasted from the end of 2nd gear through the traps. Really quite worried. I turned a 13.001 at 92 MPH. I can assure you it would have been a near mid 12s run had I continued it through 3rd.
Well not matter what I did I couldn't get 3rd to work. It goes through 1 and second as usual, holding a tad longer, then when it should shift into third its like nothing is there. The RPM just climb and the car doesn't accelerate. Please tell me I didn't toast the tranny being stupid.
I had to wait there for 4hrs for a wrecker to hull my baby home To the tune of $225.00. While waiting, I spoke with several guys that seemed to know there crap about trannies and they all said if first and second are still there then I probably just ruined the valve body or its stuck from the extreme pressure. They check the fluid and there are no traces of metal or no burn smell. PLease give me your thought.
All in all it was a happy but sad day! I am not going to let it ruin the experience. Its just part of the game I guess. It took me a while to get into that mood, but I'm a happy camper.
Let me know what you guys think.

Yeah, that what I figured. It wouldn't be easy
How much will it cost to beef this thing up if it needs rebuilt?
I live in PA and who should I send it to?
Sorry for all the questions, but I have no idea when it comes to these things.....
Thanks.
