newbie to trans. stuff

im new...here are some q's
whats the dill with gears...3.73 and stuff...whats all that mean?
whats a posi?
whats limited slip diff.?
if i have a tranny outside the car that i wanna have rebuilt, could i choose all of these things and put them in the tranny before i put it in the car?

Limited slip, posi and detroit locker are all the same thing, just different names. Check this Link out for all the info, its really good

When you referred to gears 3:73s, those are in the rear end.

posi is GM's name for limited slip. A locker isn't limited slip, it's a locker--either locked(going straight) or unlocked (turning).
