Loud T-5? Also what type of fluid?

I just got an 87 Iroc 5 speed and the thing seems to make a swishing noise when the clutch isn't depressed. It's also pretty loud when in the gears. I am thinking possibly that the fluid could be low? Either that or is that just how they sound when there are is no carpeting in the car? Sorry to seem so damn clueless but this is my first Stickshift. WEEEW HOOO!

P.S. How can you tell it's a World class or not? Thanks again.

I don't think the WC T-5's went in until 90-92. I do think there is a casting on the side of the tranny which ID's it as a WC.

I'd check the fluid level. I'm not sure whether your T-5 takes gear oil or Tranny fluid, mine takes the latter. The easiest way to find out is to see what color fluid comes out when you drain it.

Hope this helps.

The T5 World Class started going in to the f-bodies in 88.

Mine is a WC t-5 and uses Auto Tranny fluid.

Hope this helps. If you need a rebuild on it, you can do it yourself, it is not that complicated.
There is a video available at www.eastwoodcompany.com for $20 and a master rebuild kit available from www.drivetrain.com for about $200

Well, it looks like the throwout bearing is on its way out. How hard is it to change? I heard you have to pull the whole unit anyway. I was told it was rebuilt last year with a new clutch, but who knows the truth. What's the big deal about WC and non WC? Is that like the "Rock Crusher" of the T-5s?

The World Class T-5 has a little bit higher power and tourqe rating im not sure exatctly what it is, ive seen a few guys post it on here if im not mistaken i think its only like 310 or 320 lbs of tourqe or something. But im going to give my non world class T-5 a big workout when i put it behind my 406, hopefully it will last a little while.

The difference is that the World Class has a closer gear ratio and some upgraded internals that makes it a bit stronger.

Changing the throwout bearing is pretty easy. Go ahead and check the clutch while you are in it. I would hold off on buying the throwout bearing until you have it torn apart. You may need, or be just as well off going ahead and replacing the clutch while you are into it. And you can buy a kit from Napa with clutch and throw out bearing together that is cheaper than buying seperate.
