Not a 3rd Gen question, but a first gen.

Ok guys, I know you all are really smart about stuff like this, so here's my question.
I have a 69 Camaro RS and it currently has a Turbo 350 in it with 3:55 gears. Just going down the road it feels like it needs to shift again after it gets into 3rd gear. So, I was thinking maybe a transmission swap. A 700 R4 would be nice, but would that require cutting of the floorboard to make it fit? I think it's quite a bit larger than a Turbo 350. Also, what about a 200 4R? I read those were the same size as a Turbo 350. What kind of cars came with a 200 4R? I think some 3rd generation Camaros and Firebirds came with 700 R4's, right?

The vast majority of 3rd gens came with 700's.
But, properly built, the TH200R4 is the superior transmission. It'll cost you, but give Dana at Pro Built a call. He'll set you up with one that'll do the trick for you. I've got similar dreams for the '57, just waiting for my wish to be granted...

What about cutting the floorboards for a 69 Camaro? Shouldnt the 200 4R slip right in, if it's the same size as a Turbo 350 and I have a Turbo 350 in it, it should just bolt up, right? And what do you mean if they're built right? What about a stock Transmission pulled out of a car, maybe with a shift kit in it?

The overall length of the TH350 and TH200 are the same, but the distance from bellhousing to rear mount is 6-5/8" longer on the TH200.
It should fit in the tunnel with no modifications.
I don't know a lot about the TH200 as-delivered from the factory. But, I understand they need a little more help than just a kit. Dana will set you straight on all that.
