Another Zf vs. t56 question

I know this has been asked before but, I have the zf conversion kit (Bell housing, trans cross member and tunnel modification plate) that I bought from SLP at Englishtown many years ago.
Since I have the kit, is it still worth doing the Zf swap or should I just go for the T56 for ease.
The motor I am building will have over 600hp.
Thanx

zf trans is bigger and heavier than a t56 and t56 parts are for sure easier to find. how much is a conversion kit for the t56? how much did you pay for your zf kit? the costs are what would matter to me.

Tom
Since I already have the ZF kit all I need is a transmission from a vette and clutch assembly from a t-5 car. If I buy the t56, I will have to get a trans, bellhousing and clutch assmebly from a 4th gen f-body, plus buy a new crossmember. I am not worried about the price of the kit since I already have it (ZF) and it is paid for.
I am just wondring since I have the kit is it worth the effort for the stronger trans?

if you're going to put 600 hp through it, i would go with the stronger of the 2, that's a whole lot of power and if you're building a motor with that much go, why not do it right? you say the t56 is stronger than the zf so i'll take your word and tell you to get the t56.

Hi Tom
Just to clarify they say the ZF is stronger than the T56, but the T56 is an easier install if you do not have the kit from SLP.

I have always heard that the zf is stronger, but wasnt it only rated at 400 ft lb and the t56 was rated at 450?

torque ratings are a relative term,400ftlbs means the tranny is rated to take a 400ftlbs sustained shock with no traction loss, unless your doing wheelies its not a problem.

there are a few turbo vettes and seriously juiced zr1s putting out close to or over 1000hp, the zf6 isnt the problem, finding a clutch than can handle it is.

btw the early 89-93ish zf6s are stronger but noiser due to straighter cut gears
