who thinks my tranny will blow?
i have bout 135k miles on my 700r4. the engines a lo3. i am gonna put 3.73's in the rear end. so who thinks those gears are gonna be too tough on my tranny? a buddy of mine said i would blow it
Unless there are already problems with the tranny, no matter what gear set you put would make the tranny die. As for gears, you actually go easier on the tranny and engine by raising the ratio. If your tranny can handle WOT shifts now without breaking or making obscene noises or severe slippage and what not, your tranny is good to go. You have the latter generation of 700r4 1988- up and those 700r4s are much stronger and better designed than previous generations. Still not as good as a strengthened unit or a Trans-go kit so it wouldn't handle abuses like that on a consistent basis.

An L03 with 3.73's will run out of breath. Your 1/4 times will probably be slower. You will get out of the hole quicker though. The later trans' are better, but not a whole lot. Any kind of serious driving & it will be toast after while. A built trans will hold up to more power. It probably won't make a difference if you change your gears as far as the trans blowing or not.
thanx, i know that i probably wont be any faster in the 1/4, but in the future i plan on doing headers and a cam. that will give me a higher rpm range and help it breathe better. i just didnt want to get these gears and then have to shell out a grand for a new tranny right away, i couldnt aford that.
