First off, my car has a 700R4 with a cable driven speedo. I coverted to the 730 ecm so I needed a 4 pulse cable driven vss. I got one from howell-efi but it is too big. When the sensor is on the speedo cable is real tight up against the tranny tunnel which led to the cable snapping in the vss. Everything is just too tight.
I was wondering if there are any smaller 4-pulse cable driven sensors that anybody is using.
Anybody had this problem? What should I do?

 

Ok, let me rephrase this. If you have a mechanical speedometer but are using a 730 ecm (which requires a 4-pulse vss), what have the majority of you done?

I bought a vss from Howell that fits between the speedo cable and the speedo gears, but it forced the speedo cable to rub the trans tunnel too tight breaking the cable.

I need some advice cause my car is running like crap without the vss. Is there a more compact vss that I don't know about? Does GM make a 4-pulse for a cable driven speedo?

Dunno if this helps or not but have you checked out Jaguars that Run? They have the 4 pulse VSS for a cable speedo....dunno if its more compact than Howells but it does have a 10" cable extension that might let you mount the VSS out of the way. Or you might be able to get just the extension if it threads onto Howells VSS. See the #4 VSS and cable extension on this page...

I'm gonna use the #1 VSS for when I do a custom instrument panel and run a mechanical Autometer speedo. HTHs.
