I have a question about the 9 bolt rear end in my IROC

Well there is nothing wrong with it at all or anything like that. It just seems gears and so on are soo much more than a 10 bolt. Everything is hard to find for it. Im debating on finding a 4th gen rear or maybe a 10 bolt. Would I be better off with this 9 bolt or should I find a 10 bolt. There is nothing wrong with the 9 bolt gears look fine everything is fine. Its a 3.27 gear ratio also.

The 9-bolt is much stronger, but like you say, parts are hard to find. Parts are available here: www.diffsolutions.com

If it ain't broke, why replace it? It's much stronger than the 10-bolt. I'd delay a decision until you need to do something.

BTW - I'd love to have a 3.27 9-bolt for my car. Just love to.

i also have a 3.27 9-bolt posi in my car and i wunt to get gears but they are soi expensive and if my posi wears out or i break an axle then i am screwed cause i don't have the money for a new carrier and u can't find axles. i also have a 3.23 10-bolt from my car thats just chillin with nuthin wrogn withit except its not a posi, should i just get a locker unit and gears for it cause with the locker unit by powertraxs won't it be stronger then a 9-bolt??

Yep. It started out as 9bolt because I was offering only 9 bolt parts, but I am currently working on expanding into other types of rears too (some for 3rd gens, some not). Hence the change to Diff Solutions

As far as cost of changing gears you have 3.27s so you already have a series 3 carrier. The gears are expensive, but I think it is worth the strength especially if you already have the series 3 carrier. I have also heard that moser makes 9 bolt axles.
