I'd say the only one known to exist Sounds like a 10 bolt though.

Maybe I should take a picture of this thing then... cuz the fill is a square drive metal plug. The inside of the cover has a round magnet attached to it if that makes a difference... Any other ideas?? IS MY CAR SOME KIND OF MUTANT??? hehe.. thanks guy. Oh oh 1 more thing.. the axle has 6HP on it... which is 2.73 open rear. So that matched up.. just not the 9 bolts n the drums I guess.

Square drive metal plug in the rear cover you say.? OK it is rare and worth a few bucks.

You have a very nice Dana 44 diff. Gear ratio kinda sucks but you can get some better gears. They're 8.5" instead of the tiny 7 1/2" or 7 5/8" 10 bolt or 7 3/4" 9 bolt.

The Dana 44 was never offered in a production vehicle except for the SLP Firehawk. You could at one time go to GM and buy the Dana 44 right out of the Performance Parts Catalog. Sounds like somebody did that.

Even though the Dana 44 is an 8.5 inch and the 9 bolt a 7.75 inch, the 9 bolt is no wimp! Here is an article from Hot Rod talking about the strength of a 9 bolt.

i would trade my working 9-bolt posi 3.27 disk rear for and 4th gen posi 10-bolt with 3.42. they are way cheaper and the parts are cheaper and eaiser to get. the 9 bolt may be more expensive but when it does go u have to sell your house to buy stuff for it. i mean hell u can geta 90 dollor posi unit for a 10 bolt
