Is my tranny dead (700R4)?

I was driving home from work the other day, and when taking off from a stop light, my car suddenly felt like it was in neutral. The shifter was in overdrive. When I put the shifter into any other gear, I can drive around fairly normally. I can even sustain speed if I shift into overdrive while at moving. However if I accelerate quickly at all (while in OD), it feels like I'm in neutral again. Have I finally lost clutches or what? I wouldn't be surprised, I have 183,xxx miles on the clock. Thanks,

Cole

Sounds more like your linkage is streched. Pull it down to one then slap it in OD at a stop and see if it free wheels, if it works then you need to adjust the shift linkage.

I don't really think that it is the linkage because every other gear, including reverse, engages normally. Also, when I'm going down the highway, I can move the shifter into OD and tell that the gear is engaged and can even accelerate very slowly. If I get on the gas, then it slips again. Could the linkage being out of adjustment cause this?

call me silly but i dont think your linkage is outta adjustment, i think you lost a clutch pack. at least it didn't do what my '92 25th anniversary edition RS did. i was driving and all of a sudden it felt like it was in neutral (IN EVERY DAMN GEAR!!!!!) about 2 grand later the car drove like new! but anyway, good luck

I'm going to agree with you screaminformula. I suspected that was what happened. Yesterday, I called pro-built and they agreed as well. Looks like it's time for a new tranny. Thanks for the replies.
