Need flywheel. Help me!
OK I need a new flywheel for my trans. I have a 355 bolted up to a Borg Warner 5 speed. Is there a specific type flywheel I need? Are there more then one that would fit? I know hardly anything about flywheels that is why I am asking. This is the last thing I need for my car to be done. The flywheel that the trans shop said I need is $340 and I don't have that kind of money. Could someone help find a cheaper flywheel.

To tell you the truth I have no friggen IDEA. I wish I knew because that seems to be a problem doesn't it? Oh well I guess I can find out or just throw up the $350 for the flywheel. I really might as well because everything else is top of the line in the trans now.

This is going to sound a little harsh...but don't **** money away.
You can use a stock 305 flywheel (same balance as a 350) and RB83L69 GAVE you the answer...
When I bought a McLeod flywheel a few years ago for my 406, it cost me $250 and it is still under $300...why are you paying $350 again? Why not get a junkyard one for $50 and have it turned?
Why not just figure out WHAT you need BEFORE spending $$$. Even if you CAN afford to waste $$$, please don't...it just upsets the other DIY people on this board, myself included.

The reason I am getting that flywheel is I have close to a grand in rebuild parts already to be installed in the car for the trans and I don't want to have something that is not going to be as good as the rest of the of the trans. and trust me I do not have the money to **** away. I need $1,500 for insurance to cover one of my payments on my $5k insurance bill by July 7th and then $500 rent before July 20th. I am getting a second job jsut to be happy with my cars and enjoy them. Plus being 21 don't help any. I understand what you guys are saying by don't spend all that money. Trust me I don't like to live paycheck by paycheck. and making $34,000 a year living paycheck by paycheck isn't cool. but i am young so I learn by mistakes in the past and there are plenty of them. after the trans is back up I am not touching the car besides headers and different cat back.

I understand what you are saying...but still you have other options.
You can get a stock replacement flywheel from most auto parts stores...they make them in the aftermarket. Unless, of course, you really want a SFI approved one for drag racing.
$350 for a stock-type flywheel? I hope that you at least bought a really GOOD one, like lightened aluminum or something for that price...
However, is aluminum the right choice for a flywheel on the street?
These are questions that you should consider and let us know...cause you haven't stated if this is a street or drag car.

Well it is kind of a street/strip car. And once I find out what kind of flywheel I am getting in the car I will let you guys know but the guy who is doing the work knows what I am going to be doing with the car so he has one of the best flywheels ordered. Hopefully this winter I will have money for a heads and cam package and maybe a stroker or a stronger rebuild. Or just one or the other.
Try E-bay, that is where I find most of my parts nowadays. For less that 100 dollars you can get both the pre 86 and 86 flywheel. You could always sell the other one on e-bay.
I really enjoy finding ways to do my projects for less, that is part of the fun
