Tranny Questions
Alright. Right now I have a 700R4 with 146k miles on it. I know I'm not being as nice to it as I should.
But, I was thinking of building up the 305, or getting a 350 and building it. (I don't need anyone to tell me that I should go with the 350. I have heard it from everyone already.)
Anyway, I was wondering how much abuse these things can take, and how much power can they handle? I would like to know now before I go and screw it up or something. I know it can probably take anything my stock 305 can dish out, except for stupid things, like downshifting fast, or whatever.
Thanks for any help.

well generaly they can take a lot of abuse until you really start modding your engine into the 500 IBS of torque range. It just depends. All depends on how well the maintance was on the tranny and so on. Does it shift good? Slip? anything like that. That is a lot of miles for the tranny, but here is a nice rebuild kit here http://www.pro-built.net/index.cfm?f...ct&productid=5 It runs like right a lil over $530

Well, I don't really know how they should shift. It shifts pretty hard. It will actually jerk teh car if it shifts at certain RPMs. I have had it scratch going into second before, but that was a few thousand miles ago. The motor is getting pretty weak though. I have to put it down into first in order to be able to spin the tires. I think I am going to try to get a compression check done one of these days. I have had the guage sitting out for a while now. Just havn't got around to it yet.
Well, I don't do much racing or anything, just because I can't compete with anything any more.
Thanks for the link.
Will I have to take it in somewhere in order for the rebuild to be done? I have heard that a lot of special tools are needed and that they are pretty complicated pices to work with.

yeah im sure you can get someone to do it for you. A shop may install it for you, I dont see why they wouldnt. But if you could find someone who is good with transmissions and will do it for you.
