i have a 3.45 9 bolt rear inside the car right now but the posi is totaly wiped and only leave one patch of rubber all the time
i look in the paper today and see a guy selling a 3.42 posi rear from a iroc for $200 same gear ratio i have now so i dont have to worry about changing the speedo gear and its not smaller that what i have now
i want to keep the 9 blot and rebuild it because it is a stonger rear with a new posi and maybe steeper gearsbut thats money better spent on other things att the moment($500 for the posi and $300 for gears) when i put my 400hp motor in then i will worry
so i gave him a call and he said to come down and i did
i looked over the rear and all checked out fine, the posi was tight and the ratio on the ring gear said 11:41 now im no good at math and neither was he so i said that sounds like 3.42 with my crapy division skills so i said i will take it
i got the rear home and took the cover off again and draind the old fliud out and looked at the axle code and it was 4HY and that is an 87 3.23 posi and that got my scared so i got out my calculator and did 41/11 and i was happily suprised when the calulator red 41/11=3.727 3.73!!!!
the guys fiend told himit was 3.42 but it is really 3.73 posi
and i got it only for $200 and it looks like it was just rebuilt
only problem is now i have to change the speedo gear

 

wow man thats a awesome fine, BUT I thought if you go with the 9 bolt you couldnt go as high as 3:73 but hey I could be wrong.
